Bring your sketchbook to every class meeting. You will receive a grade for your sketchbook each quarter.
All sketchbook prompts may be found on the Painting Calendar pages. They are numbered on each class meeting day.

Why Artists Use Sketchbooks & What Your Sketchbook Will Demonstrate:
- Develop creativity and imagination
- Notes from class demonstrations and presentations
- Research for assignments and projects
- Brainstorm and generate ideas for artworks/projects
- Create small studies of artworks before creating the final work
- Sketches and responses from daily class prompts
- Thumbnail sketches for projects
- Experiment with media
Sketchbook Format:
- Spiral bound, blank, unlined white paper-100 pages or a 3 ring binder with blank, unlined paper.
- Recommended size: 8x11”
- NO tracing paper or newsprint
- NO loose binding where the pages easily tear out
REQUIREMENTS For Each Sketchbook Entry:

- Each entry should take you a minimum of 10 - 15 minutes.
- If a written response is required- minimum half a page or as directed.
- Answer prompt questions thoroughly and explain your thoughts and ideas.
- If a sketch is required - minimum half a page or as directed.
- If thumbnail sketches are required, each thumbnail must be a minimum of 3X3” and show purpose and sincere planning.
- Write clearly and neatly. Your writing should be easy to read.
- Sketches should show time and effort. Use colored pencil whenever directed.
